A new chapter
Writing Junto has been more fulfilling than I ever hoped for—personally and professionally. Personally, since I’ve gotten to know so many of you who have followed along for the years so well. Professionally, since the journey has now led me to my next chapter.
As of today, I will be joining Baillie Gifford as analyst on the European team in their head offices in Edinburgh.
I cannot stress enough how lucky I am to join a platform where our values and culture are so aligned. Baillie Gifford is a special place that not only fosters a long-term focus but also encourages the ability to read, think, and write—a rare occurrence in any investment organization of their size. I’m grateful they came knocking and I’m excited for my second day that starts in about 30 minutes.
This doesn't mean I will stop writing the blog. However, as you probably expect (compliance and all), I will be restricted from posting more equity and industry-specific research and predictions. The writings you'll see going forward will be more general: research approaches, competitive advantages, valuation theory, mental models, and so forth. None of these writings will represent the official views of Baillie Gifford.
Joining Baillie Gifford doesn’t mean I will put myself under a rock either. Quite the contrary, I’m now more open than ever to new relationships and ideas—now with orders of magnitue more capital to deploy! I encourage everyone to contact me via email, LinkedIn, or Twitter as usual.
Never hesitate to get in touch.
Cordially,
Oliver Sung
